Analysis of the Painting
This painting, titled *Wind-Swaying Lotus Leaves*, features a poem inscribed in the upper left corner: “卷筒微忽波風觸清香露杯時” It captures the subtle moment when a gentle breeze brushes against curled lotus leaves, creating ripples on the water and carrying the fresh scent of dew-covered lotus flowers.
Symbolism:
Noble character (the virtue of a gentleman)
Lotus: Since ancient times, the lotus has been hailed as the “gentleman among flowers.” Emerging from the mud yet remaining unstained, and bathed in clear water yet never becoming frivolous, it symbolizes purity, integrity, and transcendence.
Kingfisher: With its vibrant plumage and agile movements, the kingfisher is often seen as a symbol of dexterity, wit, and preciousness. Additionally, as the kingfisher often perches alone on a branch with a focused demeanor, it also implies the meaning of “remaining dedicated to one’s aspirations.”
Together, these two elements symbolize the complementary nature of noble character (the lotus) and intelligent, agile talent (the bird), forming a vivid portrayal of an ideal personality.
